|Doctoral Positions in Experimental Particle Physics within the LHCb group of Physikalisches Institut, Heidelberg University||Stephanie Hansmann-Menzemer|
|Our group consists of 15 senior scientists and about 25 students.
The Heidelberg LHCb group has a wide range of analysis interests and
are involved in a leading role in numerous analysis in the area of mixing
and CP violation, electroweak penguin decays, analysis of semileptonic
decays and charm physics. Complementing these topics, a new team on
spectroscopy of exotic hadrons is currently being built up.
The Heidelberg group has taken a leading role in the design, the construction
and the management of the forward tracking system for the upgrade. The
detector is based on scintillating fibres, which are read out by silicon
photo-multipliers. In addition the group works on the tracking software for
the upgraded detector and develops filter algorithms for the high-level
trigger. As a spin-off of these activities, we are in parallel developing
a scintillating fiber based beam monitor in close cooperation with the
Heidelberg Ion Therapy Center. |
We are seeking PhD candidates to strengthen our analysis activities in the area of time dependent CP violation, electroweak penguins, hadron spectroscopy and searches for Dark Matter. Furthermore, successful applicants have the possibility to make significant contributions to either our software activities in pattern recognition or to our hardware activities for the LHCb scintillating fiber tracker or the beam monitor project.
These positions are embedded within a structured doctoral programme as part of one of the two Research Training Groups of the German Research Foundation (DFG) "Particle Physics Beyond the Standard Model", "High Rate and High Resolution Detectors in Nuclear and Particle Physics".
Applicants must have a master degree in experimental particle physics or in a related field with relevant experience. Applications including CV, a research statement and two letter of references should be sent to
Prof. Stephanie Hansmann-Menzemer
Prof. Ulrich Uwer
Dr. Blake Leverington
Dr. Sebastian Neubert
The positions are open till they are filled. Applications which are received before 3rd of September 2017 get our full attention.
